It’s a perfect match of the latest feature set with an innovative diamond design, intended to make one big style statement.

Sony Ericsson introduces Gesture Control, which maximizes the use of the imbedded camera, making ignoring a call or snoozing the alarm as easy as a wave of your hand.

Beneath its stylish skin, the Z555 features a low-key spec list for a Sony Ericsson phone, although it does have a music player and FM radio, plus a rather basic 1.3-megapixel camera. It doesn't feature 3G connectivity, instead making do with tri-band GPRS/EDGE.

The Sony Ericsson Z555's outside display shows you who is calling even without opening the clamshell. When it's in idle mode, the outside display remains discretely invisible...with no compromise to the design. Just like you, the Sony Ericsson Z555 changes its look to fit the suit the season. The colours and designs that appear within the phone's themes, effectively the look of the menu system and home screen, can update automatically as the year goes by. Linked to the phone's calendar, the Sony Ericsson Z555 knows when it's time for that summer look to give way to the fall. It even saves something special for big events like News Year's Eve!
Sony Ericsson Z555 - Compatible headset.

The Sony Ericsson Z555 allows you to grab that spare moment in a taxi to catch up with your favourite band or even book. The specification and design of the K530i is almost exactly the same as the Sony Ericsson W660i, and so we would refer you to our in-depth review of the W660i to read more. Really the only differences between the K530i and the W660i are that the K530i is not Walkman-branded (but it still has a music player and FM radio) and is missing the MegaBass™ feature.

It is a sleek looking 3G mobile and its smooth edges give it a particularly attractive design. Its screen is fairly large and impressive as it comes in 262k colour and it is a TFT style screen too. It comes with a numeric keypad just below the screen which is really easy to type things into and it also benefits from having shortcut keys too.

However its main two advantages as mentioned earlier are its camera and its internet capability. The Sony Ericsson K530i mobile phone comes complete with a built in “Access Netfront” web browser. This makes it easy to search the internet as well as to purchase games too. It also allows you to run RSS feeds which basically give you all of the latest news direct to your phone. The speed of the internet is also really good for a mobile phone as it has broadband style internet access.

You may read on the web that the K530i is also the first phone to support Sony Ericsson's new GPS accessory, the HGE-100. The HGE-100 looks like a wired stereo headset, but also incorporates a GPS receiver. This lets you find your current location, monitor your speed, distance, route and calorie burn, and also control the music player on your phone. However, the HGE-100 is compatible with most current Sony Ericssons, including the W660i - not just the K530i.

Sony Ericsson K530i is a very efficient mobile phone. It has easy accessibility to Email and to browse the websites. The speed of browsing the website is very fast. It is possible to browse the internet and check the mails from anywhere in the world. Even online purchases of products are also possible through the Sony Ericsson K530i silver mobile phone.

Overall the Sony Ericsson K530i is definitely a good phone to go for if you regularly browse the internet and download files. It is also good for photos too and you should get good quality photos all of the time no matter where you go. As well as those two benefits, you also get to benefit from fantastic music entertainment and MMS services. It really does have everything that you need and it is a good stylish phone to have too.

Sony Ericsson Z610i

Sony Ericsson Z610i
Major features
o Tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900MHz and UTMS network support
o 2.0 inch 256K colour 176x220 pixel TFT display
o Secondary external 128 x 36 pixel OLED display
o 2.0 megapixel camera with 2.5x digital zoom
o Secondary VGA camera for video calling
o 72 tone polyphonic ring tones, MP3/AAC support
o 16MB internal memory (64MB M2 Memory Stick included)
o USB 2.0 and Bluetooth v2.0 (with stereo support) wireless connectivity
o SMS, EMS, MMS, E-mail and instant messaging
o WAP 2.0 (xHTML) browser and RSS feeds over UTMS/GPRS
o MIDP 2.0 Java games and applications
o PIM and organiser functions

Problems/Issues?
o No camera flash
o Cannot take photos or video with VGA camera
o Exterior is slippery
o Smudge and scratch marks on pearl exterior

Sales package (should contain):
1x Sony Ericsson Z610i
1x 950mAh BST-33 battery
1x A/C charger
1x 64MB M2 memory card
1x USB data cable
1x Stereo headset
1x Sony Ericsson Z610i manual and software CD

Design
The Sony Ericsson Z610i is a hot little number that will turn heads. Available in blue, black and for a limited time pink, the Z610i's clamshell design comes with a sleek mirror finish. On the front of the phone is a simple 128x36-pixel OLED screen that lights up when users receive an SMS or phone call, which is a handy feature for those wanting to screen calls from editors wondering where a review for this phone has got to.

The Z610i will appeal to the masses with its small and slim 94 by 49 by 20 millimetre dimensions and rounded edges that make it easily slide into a pocket. Weighing in at 110 grams it is on the lighter side of most 3G phones on the market and a country mile lighter than the first 3G phones in Australia.

Inside the clamshell is a somewhat typical Sony Ericsson numeric keypad. We found the keypad easy to use and comfortable, however, we did find the navigation pad a little clumsy and hard to master. On the plus side the phone has a bright 262K-colour screen that measures 220 by 176 pixels, which we found clear for viewing photos and video.
Sony Ericsson has made the design of the Z610i simple and easy-to-use without compromising on style and looks.

Features
While the design is stylish and simple the Sony Ericcson Z610i has plenty of features for consumer and business users alike.

Included in the phone is a 2-megapixel camera which takes videos and stills. Using a 3G provider and an application on the phone called "The Picture Blog" users are able to upload their images to a blog site automatically.

Music lovers will be able to play MP3s using this phone, however no headphones are included in the standard unit and will have to be purchased separately. Also, the phone only ships with a 64MB Sony Memory Stick Micro but the phone does support cards up to 1GB. With 3G access users are able view the Web, mobile TV and download tunes or ringtones directly to the phone.

For business users the Z610i supports push e-mail which will let you have your regular e-mails forwarded to your mobile phone. With a browser included in the phone users will be able to see HTML, xHTML and WAP pages on the large 2-inch (5cm) screen. Also included is an RSS reader that periodically checks for new content on your favourite Web sites. Business users who like to synchronise contacts and calendars can do so via the Z610i's USB connection. Unfortunately the software included does not support Mac or Linux.

Performance
During our tests, the phone worked flawlessly for all basic operations such as receiving and making calls, sending text messages and viewing sites using the Hutchison's 3 mobile network.
While making videos and placing video calls is fun we aren't overly impressed by the quality delivered on the Z610i. While the phone has inbuilt 2-megapixel camera, the quality of photos we took were average at best. With no flash many of the photos we took were blurry and we found it difficult to capture moving objects.

With no cover for the camera lens, the phone could scratch or gather dust during everyday use. In fact, while the mirror face to the phone is aesthetically pleasing and well designed, users might be wary of fingerprint marks and possibly scratching the surface.
Using a standard 2G SIM card for the majority of our test period produced around three and a half days before we had to recharge the Z610i. Using 3G features and multimedia we would expect the phone to drain battery life a little faster.

With only a small amount of memory included, the Sony Ericsson Z610i will require more than a 64MB memory stick if you are looking to store more than about 16 music tracks and some photos or videos. This will be an additional cost to the phone for serious users of the multimedia features.

Overall, the Z610i is one of the most attractive Sony Ericsson phones that we've seen here at CNET.com.au. While we think many users will purchase this phone purely because it is pretty, there are some useful and handy features under the hood which will appeal to the fashion conscious business users and power users alike.

Sony Ericsson P990i

Sony Ericsson P990i

The Sony Ericsson P910i is the latest in Sony Ericsson's P-series of phones that combine PDA-style functionality with advanced mobile phone technology. The front keypad can be removed to reveal the huge internal display, offering a touchscreen facility and handwriting recognition using a specially designed pen, as well as a full QWERTY keyboard. The P900i doesn't just look like a PDA, it has many PDA-style functions. For example, its email manager can be synchronised with Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes, and can handle attachments including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. At the same time, it includes an integrated video camera, MP3 player and downloadable Java™ applications. With a range of connectivity options including Bluetooth™, the P910i provides an excellent platform for working (and playing) on the move.

The P990i comes with great access to the Internet which allows the user to be anywhere & still be in contact with business contacts & friends. The push email feature allows the user to get their email straight from the office to their P990i & all this happens with one press of the button. The phone comes complete with Bluetooth™ technology so therefore the user can have the pleasure of connected wirelessly to other Bluetooth™ devices. The P990i can work as a high speed modem to connect the users personal computer to the Internet, which can all be carried out wireless with the help of Bluetooth™. The speed of the P990i will never let the user down as the P990i comes with the fastest wireless networks & the phone has the Symbian OS version 9.1 ready to go which provides the user with the best of business tool they can get.

The P910i uses the same Symbian operating system as its predecessor and shares many of the features of the P900. However there are quite a few new features that make this phone more than just a minor upgrade. First thing to mention is the new QWERTY keyboard. The numerical keypad flips down to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard on the reverse side. The user now has a choice of text entry methods: QWERTY keyboard, predictive text using the normal keypad and handwriting recognition using the screen and stylus. The user interface can be driven by touching menu icons on the screen or with the jog dial on the side of the phone.

On flipping down the keypad, the full size of the LCD screen becomes apparent. The screen has been upgraded from 65,000 colours on the P900 to 262,000 colours. When you consider the enormous resolution of this screen (208 x 320 pixels), you have virtually the best display on any mobile currently available. Only the Sharp GX30 can match this screen, and that phone has a fraction of the features available on the P910i.

The Sony Ericsson P990i is not all work & no play. The phone comes with a beautiful quality 2 megapixel integrated camera which can be user for fun & pleasure as well as business requirements. The camera comes with a photo light & an automatic focus which will ensure that the user gets the perfect photo. The P990i has a high quality video record feature which allows the user to record a video clip or even take part in a video call.

The phone comes complete with Java™ embedded games or the user has the option to download many more. The built in media player allows the user to play their favourite music. The user can copy music from a CD on to their personal computer then on to the P990i very smoothly using the music transfer software. The P990i comes with a MusicDJ™ feature which allows the user to be very creative & turn into a DJ overnight. The FM radio can be tuned into the users favourite station very easily & the radio can be used as an alarm clock. The sound quality is fantastic on the P990i & the user will truly amazed by the quality.

The Sony Ericsson P990i comes with all the messaging tools that a user could possibly require including email, push email, text messaging (SMS), long text messaging & multimedia messaging (MMS) which allows the user to send video, photos, images, sound & text all in one very easy to create message.

Another new feature is push email. Emails get sent automatically to your phone - there's no need to download from a mailserver. You can synchronise email with your PC via the Bluetooth connection.

The final change of note is the increase in the internal memory from 16 Mbytes to 64 Mbytes, which is very welcome, given the functionality of this phone.

The battery life of the P910i is slightly worse than the P900, but should still give a decent number of days use between charges, depending on how much use is made of the PDA-style functions.

All things considered, the P910i is a substantial improvement over the P900 and pushes the capabilities of the P-series forward significantly.

Features of the Sony Ericsson P910i include:
• Colour display (262,000 colours; 208 x 320 pixels)
• WAP 1.2.1 (GPRS), built-in web browser
• High Speed Data (HSCSD - up to 28.8 kbps)
• E-mail (compatible with MS Outlook and Lotus Notes)
• Integrated VGA digital camera (640 x 480 resolution)
• Integrated camcorder
• Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS) & Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) - send pictures, sound and video like text messages
• MP3 audio & video (MPEG4) player
• 24-voice polyphonic ringtones and MP3 ringtones
• Pen-based user interface & handwriting recognition
• Symbian operating system
• Picture phonebook
• Speakerphone
• 64 Mbytes memory plus external Memory Stick Duo™
• Downloadable polyphonic & mono ringtones
• Bluetooth™, infrared, USB & RS232 cable connectivity
• Stereo headphones
• "Flight mode" option for use on aircraft
• 3D games & downloadable Java™ applications
• Wallpaper & screensaver
• Calendar, contacts, voice memo, synchronisation with PC
• Size: 115 x 57 x 26 mm
• Weight: 155g
• Battery standby: 400 hours
• Battery talktime: 13 hours
• Tri band

Sony Ericsson W850i

Sony Ericsson W850i

The Sony Ericsson W850i is a Walkman-branded phone in a slide design. Sony Ericsson are new to sliders, but they have produced a very nice design that slides nicely, has a very easy-to-use keypad, a 5-way scroll key that's much easier to use than the joystick design of the K800i, and makes excellent use of the slide format to include a large screen. It's available in a choice of black or white. The white version has a real 24 carat gold Walkman logo for added bling! The keypad features a funky lighting effect that pulses to the beat of the music. On the outside, it's a beautiful phone.

Inside it's great too! This is a Walkman-branded phone, so we'll review the music features first. The Walkman series of phones have established a first-class reputation for music, and the W850i fully lives up to expectations. You can enjoy stereo sound from the music player or the FM radio with excellent audio quality and user-friendliness. The Mega Bass™ feature enhances bass frequencies and a good stereo headset is supplied in the sales package. There's plenty of room for storing music with a 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo supplied as standard - this is enough for around 1,000 tracks.

Managing music is very easy with the CD of PC software supplied. The W850i supports USB mass storage, which means that files can be easily and quickly transferred with a drag and drop operation (USB cable supplied). You can also download music directly to your phone with the Walkman software, and the 3G connection makes this very fast. The W850i also introduces a novel feature called TrackID™. If you hear a song on the radio that you don't know, you can use TrackID to find the name, artist and album for you - impressive!

The W850i is also a camera phone of course, and is equipped with a good quality 2 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom and flash. There's also a video camera that you can use to record or to make 3G video calls. The W850i's camera isn't in the same league as the Sony Ericsson K800i however, as there's no autofocus.
